This is a research project into the design and accessibility of social housing for people with disabilities in Johannesburg. In spite of the current legislations, there are no accessibility guidelines for social housing including minimum requirements for domestic spaces. Therefore, we have developed accessible housing guidelines that go above and beyond the minimum requirements as well as based on international best practice. We show the client how a typical housing unit can be improved with accessibility solutions and be wheelchair accessible.
